| Tamil Nadu Industrial Guidance & Export Promotion Bureau In January 1992, Government of Tamil Nadu constituted Guidance Bureau with the objective of attracting major investment proposals into Tamil Nadu. Since inception, during the period 1992 – April 2001, Guidance Bureau successfully attracted 48 major investment proposals with an aggregate investment of Rs.10,070.96 crores. Encouraged by the success of Guidance, many other State Governments subsequently constituted similar specialized agencies for promoting investments.
Functions of Guidance Bureau

To attract industrial projects and promote investments in Tamil Nadu |

Provide comprehensive information to support to investors about federal and State Government policies, infrastructure support, taxation, investment opportunities etc. |
|
To function as Single Window Documentation Centre for major investment proposals and assist investors in getting all pre-project clearances, infrastructure support like land in industrial parks, power, water, etc. |
|
Facilitate projects during implementation phase by undertaking trouble shooting. |
|
To monitor implementation of Foreign Investment proposals approved by FIPB, Government of India |
|
Make PowerPoint presentations to investors’ delegations, conferences, Joint Business Councils, etc., about competitive advantages and investment opportunities in Tamil Nadu |
|
Convene review meetings to follow up implementation of major investment proposals |
|
To undertake applied research and provide feedback to Government on investment flows, policy initiatives undertaken by other State Governments, etc. |
|
Provide Export guidance to potential exporters and disseminate details of export enquiries for different products |

Single Window facilitation
Government of Tamil Nadu has designated Guidance Bureau as the “Documentation and Clearance Centre” to accept common application form for obtaining all pre-project state-level approvals and infrastructure support. Government has notified that the common application designed by Guidance Bureau will be effective from 1st January 2002 for all major investment proposals.
