The Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Hyderabad-based GMR Infrastructure for a joint sector initiative to set up a multi-product Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Krishnagiri district. The MoU was signed in the presence of Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. GMR Infrastructure was selected through international bidding.

1.M/s. RAKINDO developers Pvt Ltd, (RAKINDO), a 50-50 Joint Venture between Vishwatej Projects Pvt Ltd (Vishwatej), a wholly owned subsidiary of TRIMEX Group, and RAKEEN (Pvt) Ltd, UAE, (RAKEEN) a Joint Stock Global Business Company, promoted by the Govt. of Ras Al Khaimah, UAE has proposed to develop an “Integrated Feeder Township with an Information Technology Park” in an area of 650 acres in the villages of Sundakamuthur, Perur Chettipalayam & Thithipalayam in Coimbatore South Taluk of Coimbatore District, Tamil Nadu. The entire lands are being purchased privately by the company and no land acquisition through the Govt. is involved.

2. TRIMEX group founded in 1985 by Thiru Koneru Rajendra Prasad is a trans-national, US $ 500 million mineral conglomerate headquartered in Dubai that mines, sources processes and delivers industrial raw minerals to the world’s leading oil-well drilling, ceramic, glass, construction and fertilizers industries. The Group has diversified into Infrastructure, Hospitality and Tourism in India. RAKEEN is a US $ one billion Dollar, property development and master planning company, based in Ras-Al-Khaimah, UAE, that designs and develops world class resorts and residential properties in the Middle East, China, India and Europe.

3. Out of the 650 acres of lands, TRIMEX through RAKINDO has proposed to develop Feeder Township, Residential and Leisure facilities in an area of about 625 acres in the villages of Sundakamuthur, Perur Chettipalayam & Thithipalayam and an IT Park with 5 million Square Feet in the balance 25 acres of lands in the village of Perur Chettipalayam in South Coimbatore Taluk.

4. Besides this, the Group has also intended to develop a Sector Specific SEZ for Light Engineering in an area of 350 acres of lands in Coimbatore and Kadalur Marina Project in an area of 500 acres in Kancheepuram District in future. The Kadalur Marina Project would be a first of its kind Marina in India with water sports, leisure, entertainment, high end residential and a world class golf course. This project may hold boost the image of Chennai in the International Marina map. This project may provide employment opportunity over 15,000 persons.

5. The project site is located at the foot hills of the Western Ghats towards the South West of Coimbatore City with access to NH-47, and Siruvani Road and it falls outside the city limits. The site has access to the NH-47 through a proposed 100 ft. road and is 20 Kms from the Coimbatore Airportand 12 Kms form the Coimbatore Railway Station. These gives the project a unique vantage point wherein it can harness its location the strength of for both a primary driver for IT Park and strategic fit for Residential & Leisure facilities around the SEZs proposed to be developed by the JVs. The company has obtained necessary inputs related to market advisory / potential and development feasibility from M/s. Cushman & Wakefield for the captioned project.

6. The total investment in the Township near Coimbatore and in Kadalur Marine project is estimated at about Rs.20,000 crores. This project is expected to be fully operational in five years and may generate employment opportunity for about 65,000 persons when it is fully operational.

7. TIDCO Board approved the participation of TIDCO in the JV viz., RAKINDO Developers Pvt. Ltd for setting up of Integrated Feeder Township with an IT Park in Coimbatore District. Later, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between RAK Investment Authority and TIDCO in the presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
