The Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Hyderabad-based GMR Infrastructure for a joint sector initiative to set up a multi-product Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Krishnagiri district. The MoU was signed in the presence of Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. GMR Infrastructure was selected through international bidding.

Government of India has granted ” in - principle approval “ to set up a Sector Specific Special Economic Zone for Pharmaceutical based on Biotechnology sector over an area of 365 hectares at Denkannikotta and Hosur Taluk, Krishnagiri District, Tamil Nadu by M/s Biopure Health Care Private Limited. Biopure SEZ is first of its kind SEZ focused on the integrated space of Pharma, Biotech and Healthcare. The single sector specific SEZ in 365 Hectare will focus on Bio Pharmaceuticals.

2.The total project cost is estimated at Rs.73.44 crores. TIDCO Board has approved Rs.49 lakhs as TIDCO’s equity in the total equity of the project.

The Promoters Agreement was signed by TIDCO with the promoter on 12.4.2007.
