TIDCO along with Frontier Lifeline Pvt. Ltd. has proposed to develop Medical Village project in Edur and Elavoor villages, Gummidipoondi Taluk, Tiruvallur District at an estimated project cost of Rs.450 crores. The Medical Village would consist of a 1000 bed Super Specialty Bio-Hospital, Sterile Medical Corridor, Medical University, Herbarium, Wellness Centre etc. A joint venture agreement was signed between TIDCO and Frontier Lifeline Pvt. Ltd. in the presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister, Government of Tamil Nadu on 21st November, 2007

Dr. K.M. Cherian, Chairman and CEO, Frontier Lifeline Pvt. Ltd. is a pioneer in the field of Heart Surgery in India. He has formed Dr.K.M. Cherian Heart Foundation, which started a cardiac super specialty hospital through a corporate entity called M/s. Frontier Lifeline Pvt. Ltd. Dr. K.M. Cherian has proposed to develop a Medical Village project in Tiruvallur District in the name of “Frontier Mediville,” in association with TIDCO through M/s. Frontier Lifeline Pvt. Ltd.

The Medical Village Project would be implemented in three phases over a period of five years and provide employment to about 3000 persons, most of them rural people in the surrounding villages. Moreover, this will be a catalyst towards overall development of the area north of Chennai, which is less developed compared to the southern and western suburbs of Chennai. The Medical Science Park and the Bio-hospital will be the first of its kind in India and one of the 18 Bio-hospitals around the world by 2010.

The Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India has also sanctioned funds to the project through the Department of Science and Technology and Technology Development Board and the Department of Health Research (ICMR) for Research and Development.
